Seperate Main Page Layout

I'd like to do a different layout for the home page of a site as opposed the the rest of the site (i.e. no infoboxes on the side). I understand this requires creating a different main_page.tpl.php file and calling it from index.php using the following bit of code:

include (bts_select('main', $content_template)); // BTSv1.5

I'm just unsure how to modify this bit of code to call the new version of main_page.tpl.php. Do I need to use a certain naming convention for the new version of main_page.tpl.php?

I'd appreciate any help; I've been all over this site and the osCommerce forum as well.
