user groups and product category

Does anyone know of a mod that can hide a products category from a specific user group? I did manage to install a mod I found that hides the product but then it only adds it to the new products menu when a user logs in, I'd like to know if I can do that with category but I don't want it to go into the user's "My Account Info" box that pops up in the upper left hand corner after a user logs in, I have my shop setup with 4 or 5 different groups and some I'd like to offer download of price sheets and so on
but I don't want all the groups to be able to have access to them

First of all - maybe turn off "NEW PRODUCTS". Try using Specials instead.

Second of all - you could change the SQL of new products to display only if product is of a certain group.
