Default access denied to catalog section of admin panel

I now can't edit my catalog. I get an "access denied" error. I've been carefully making edits to the site but have no idea what happened.

    Help!

    Hi,
What exactly have you been doing? What where the last changes you made? Have you switched servers recently? When to get access deigned? Inside the admin or at the admin index/login page?

I get the error when I'm in the admin panel and I try to add something to my catalog. All other parts of admin seem to work fine. I've been re-skinning boxes and doing css and adding the text to "privacy" and "conditions of use"...

    thanks for your reply.

I would say that you are using an admin account that does not have access to do whatever you are trying to do.

What admin login are you using? Do you have more than one account, and is the one you are using the top administrator?

all other parts of admin functions work fine. It's just the catalog. I only have one account.

    thanks,

So I still need clarification, is it the catalog section of the admin panel that gives you the error, or the catalog main web site?

If in the admin panel, you need to add the catalog section to your admin user group, or add file access to the catalog files.

    1. Go to Administrator >> Member Groups. Click on the Groups button
    2. Select the group you want to work with, and then click on the New Permissions button.
    3. Make sure that Catalog is checked, and All the options in the catalog section are checked.

If you do this and still no access, time to try this:

    1. Administrator >> File Access
    2. Click on the Catalog link 2 times.
    3. Make sure the following files are listed. If any are missing, they will be in the dropdown list at the right. Select each that is missing and click save. Repeat one at a time until all are listed.:

    categories.php
    define_conditions.php
    define_mainpage.php
    define_privacy.php
    define_shipping.php
    easypopulate.php
    easypopulate_functions.php
    manufacturers.php
    new_attributes.php
    new_attributes_change.php
    new_attributes_config.php
    new_attributes_functions.php
    new_attributes_include.php
    new_attributes_select.php
    products_attributes.php
    products_expected.php
    reviews.php
    specials.php
    stats_low_stock_attrib.php
    stock.php
    xsell.php
    xsell_products.php

If that doesn't fix it, you have really hosed the install and I suggest a fresh start.
