Exclamation Please help: STEP BY STEP instructions to install oscommerce template into OSCMAX

    Hello,

I have searched forums to no avail. I have an oscommerce template which needs to be installed into oscmax. I have found a few threads on the forums stating that it's possible - and I have read the BTS template article talking about it - but I can't find ANYWHERE the step by step instructions into how i can modify the oscommerce template into OSCMAX. If someone can help with specific instructions into exactly what I should do - I would TRULY appreciate it. I am a newbie with thsi - but I AM able to follow instructions. Please tell me which files i need to modify and what parts to edit if any. I would truly appreciate if someone can take time to give me a lesson!

    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE GREATLY!

this post does not have the information I am asking. It shows the BTS primer, but since I am new at oscommerce / oscmax, it's very confusing. I really just need step by step instruction. What code to take OUT of the oscommerce template and put it where in oscmax...if someone can help - I am sure MANY users would be grateful.

I see many posts here about this topic, but NOT A SINGLE post giving clear instructions on what to do exactly.

What you are asking for is not how to install an OSCommerce template in OSCMAX, but on how to create a template for OSCMAX.

OSCommerce does not have templates, but customized stores. If you have previously purchased a OSC "template", you have not really purchased a template, but a full store with all the code modified and tweaked to follow a theme.

Now, what you actually have to do if you want to switch from OSC to OSCMAX is create a template for OSCMAX based on your current store, there is not a step by step solution on what you are asking for. To start with, you could just take a look at one of OSCMAX default templates and create your own from scratch, checkout /templates dir on your OSCMAX store. If you are a newbie with this like you state, you will either have to learn or pay someone to do the job for you (as always), you could start by creating a copy of /templates/fallback as /templates/mytemplate and start modifying from there.

Compare the code on each file in \templates\fallback\content to those in your store root directory to see how easy would it be to take your currant "template" to OSCMAX, I do not think it would be easy.

Thank you so much for responding to me. I didn't realize that oscommerce template was actually a full blown store. I am VERY BAD at modifying graphics, templates, etc. If anyone out here thinks they can modify a nice osccommerce template (from template monster) please let me know.

OSC does not come with a template system, it must be installed as an addon. OSCMAX does come with a templating system, so changing a OSCMAX template is as easy as changing a Windows theme and having your desktop look completely different (or any other program that has skinning/templating abilities).

Any "OSCommerce template" anyone can sell you is not even something close to being a template, it is as you say a full blown store with the look you purchased built into it. You can not just pull out the cosmetic part of the store and copy it over to OSCMAX. If you are actually starting from scratch, it would be way easier for you to start building from a OSCMAX template.
