    Default Demo store, anyone?

I think I might have found a bug on the who's online module, but my store is so heavily modified and the bug is quite rare, so if someone has a demo store online with the latest version, please let me know!

I would need access to the admin section, just to see what is being shown on tools / who's online.

    Thx!

Doh, it needs SEO URL up and working. Found this store, but it doesn't work when I turn on SEO URL:

Why not just make a test installation locally to play with? Or make a test installation on your hosting account in another directory.

Then you can test all you want, when you want.

Yup, I guess I will end up doing that sooner or later. I already have a VMware machine just set up with easyphp, but I am just too lazy to finish seting up a test store... and it is always much more fun editing on my live stores!

I'd love to, but isn't it smartest to "make a test" with the latest? Instead of dl'ing a version from 2007-Jan-02 ?

I ran across this site on Monday, (first exposed to OSC back in late 2004 while I was learning php/mysql) read a lot of the posts here and then downloaded the "latest version" that is downloadable thru your link.

    1) First impressions...were the register globals problem...agreeing with many of the posts I read and also to see that even a "Testing Team" member battles with this problem.

    re: php register globals help

IS he working with the -3 ?? or -4 ??

    2) So, I went thru the motions of installing anyway, just to get flustered of the "re-invention of the wheel syndrome", or "the better mousetrap that is broken"

    3) Applied a few days ago to "test" with the latest version, but haven't heard anything back at all. As why do any "bug reporting" on something that is deprecated??

    4) Me ? I'm 50 years old and I've been programming "things" on and off since the late 1970's on "paper tape" with the advent of combining Machine Tools ( back then, costing 1/2 a million dollars ) and NC (Numerical Control) where one CRASH ( or a piece of punched paper didn't go all the way thru) took the machine down. In 1980 I purchased a Commodore CBM 8032 for 5k which had 32k ram, 9" green CRT, (2) 360k floppies and a 9-pin DOT MAtrix printer.

I needed it as I wanted to automate/record my accounting processes. Well they ( Commodore sales ) told me they could hite it out for another $ 5,000.00 Man, was I ticked... I just learned C'dore basic and wrote my own in under 50 hours. Really felt good to be paid 100.00/an/hour

After this, I was exposed to DOS 2.0 when I worked for GTE and beta w/Microsoft up thru 6.22 WinFG, Shyed away from Win95, but was also on the NT team from 3.0/3.5/3.51/4.0 up thru Win2k team.

    5) So, yesterday I said THWT and just deleted it off my server, just to find myself again today dl'ing it and wondering WHY? ( Well, It's a Sunday rainy day) is my excuse !!

    6) Is anybody out here? (laugh)

The latest stable version is 2.0 RC3.0.1 which is available via the download link. That is the latest recommended for live use.

The latest development version is RC4. This is only available via the developers site SVN. You do not need to be on the test team to get the latest code, you can still get the latest code via the public svn respository (Click the Developers link at the top of this page). The RC4 code is cutting edge and there may be a few showstoppers in it that have not been found yet, which is why there is no simple download link.

Bkpie is having issues is with RC3.01 (because, remember, RC4 is not ready for live site usage) - he was hacking in the register_globals mod and having issues. This is not an issue with RC4, as it is fully PHP5 and register_globals off ready.

    Now on to your list:
    1. register_globals on is a requirement of the code. This is stated in the docs. RC4 is the first version that does not require it and is not yet ready for general release. If you want to use osCMax without having the hack the code out of the box, turn register globals on for the directory that you are running osCMax in. Leave it off for the rest of the server. Or, wait until RC4 is ready for general usage.

    2. The mousetrap is not broken, osCMax works just fine if you set up your server to satisfy the software requirements (which are stated in the docs - osCMax Installation Manual - osCMax - osCommerce Maximized

And it is not a better mousetrap, it is a different mousetrap. They both do the same thing. osCMax has a lot of the features that users of vanilla osCommerce keep having to manually install on their own. It saves a lot of time and works great, again if you follow the docs and set up your server to satisfy its requirements.

    3. Not everyone gets on the test team. Sorry, but you can still get the latest code via the svn repository. oscmax RC4 is not deprecated. It is current code that includes all osCommerce RC2a patches and fixes.

    4.

    5. Why? Because osCMax is better that a straight osCommerce store, and deep down you know it osCMax is not perfect. Neither is osCommerce. It depends on what is right for you, what features you need, and how much time you want to spend hacking in mods that are already included in osCMax.

Michael, first? Thx for the reply

Second? Where to start...laugh...well, here goes...might as well keep bouncing thru Numbers 1 thru 6

    1) register_globals on is a requirement of "oscmax" code, at present...and understood. I am not exactly sure ( nor need to know at this point) what version of OSC iteself dropped this. But I can tell you, I played w/it back early in 2004

    [NEWS] osCommerce 2.2 Milestone 1: msg#00001

Even though I have "not" allowed it yet, I went in and installed

    Still getting "top billng" :
osCommerce: The Industry's Past, Present and Future

BUT?? I see ( or saw ) this, as the "

And, should you "knot" have this bookmarked yet, it might be a glimpse into the future of "MAX" ...all, from the FWIW dept of "Number 4" of my post~~

PS...And I thank the lord...for not having those idiotic smilies in the "quick reply" on this forum...lol..

Take care, all in jest ( and improvement...from an outsiders viewpoint )

Community - Off topic & Chit Chat at osCMax.com

This is probally a great place to "hash out" the problems of creating one and problems, as this is what needs to done.. Chit and Chat about the installation problem of creating a "Demo Store"
