Change # of new products on main page?

includes/modules/featured.php is the featured products contribution. I believe this comes with osCMAX stock. The second file is what you will create when you issue the copy command. Then you can edit that file.

If featured products contribution is NOT in your version of osCMAX you can always get it from the main OSC site and install it (it's an easy install) [sidenote to me... I should really keep a vanilla osCMAX around].

as for locating modules, excuse the *nix centric commands...
(assuming that httpdocs is your web server root and you have the catalog set to the root directory)
$ cd httpdocs/includes/modules/
$ ls

That should list all the modules in your catalog. There you will find everything from whats_new to featured.

Featured products is not in the stock Max setup but as Met00 said it is very easy to add. However, Specials is in the stock setup but you have to specifically put items on special.

There is one great thing about having new products on your main page if you add things on a regular basis. The search engine bots will always visit your main page when they visit and follow new links, which is new products. For me this gets a new product on Google & Yahoo the very day I them which is great but there's more.

This is my theory based on my observations and I'm basing this solely on my site's ranking alone. Google likes fresh content so new items are new content and my site moves up in ranking when I add them and will stay higher if I routinely add them. It's been several months since I've added any and I dropped slowly to 7 (my lowest in years) for my main search term.

Of course, putting new items as featured items will have the same effect but the new products are automatic which is good and bad.

I recently realized this correlation so I'll add some new items and see if I go back up.
