Backorder feature?

I've been using oscommerce and I've been paying programmers to update this, add this, etc. Finally one programmer suggested I take a look at oscMax! Boy, if only I had found this a few hundred dollars ago! But I need a backorder system for online. With all the great features this software offers, I couldn't find anything related to backorders.

Is this an avaialble feature or has someone else created this?

This may not be sophisticated, but I edited the Admin/Localization/Order Status screen to add 'Backorders' to the existing statuses of 'Pending', 'Processing', 'Delivered' (I changed to 'Delivered for Transit' because I hoped that people would understand that I don't control UPS, USPS or FedEx), 'Updated', and 'Preparing [Paypal IPN].

I try to inform the customer at time of shipping if we are backordering items, then I set the order status at 'Backorder' so I can complete the backorder at a later time.

Yes, I have done that too. What I'm looking for is a way to keep track of which products from an order won't be shipped because they are backordered and a way for the customers to be able to track their status through their account history.

You would have to expand it a bit for the customer front end tracking

Yes, I saw that too. In talking with a programmer who has experience (?) he said that osCMax had a backorder module. But appearently he is incorrect. This is what I'm trying to confirm in addition to finding a backorder module or someone to create one.

I can confirm that osCMax does not have a backorder system, so you will need to integrate this yourself.
