Short Meta Description Error

I have a site that was indexing in Google but hasn't for almost a month now despite the robots coming a couple times a day. The only errors Google says it finds are Short Meta Descriptions for the main catalog page. The page has the following in the html.

<meta name="description" content="META_TAG_DESCRIPTION" />
<meta name="keywords" content="META_TAG_KEYWORDS" />

From what I've read in the forem these are supposed to generated automatically correct? I have tried to follow the posts on how to change the meta tags but the wiki is not up to date and I can't find the section on modifying meta tags in osCmax. I have opened the meta tags php file but am a little scared to modify anything. It sure would be great if areas that could be modified were easier to distinguish within the file.

Any help would be appreciated. This forem has been of great assistance to me in learning how to manage my cart.
