Default Prevent SE indexing of enitre catalog?

Is there an easy way to prevent search engines from indexing my entire catalog? Google is so busy indexing all the different pages of my catalog that they ignore the pages before you get to the catalog that are optimized for searching. I understand you can add a meta tag so that they don't index but what file do I put it in to block the entire oscMax 2 shopping cart?

I'm new to this so be very specific if you know what to do.

Thanks!

Cherie

I understand now. I knew how to write the robots.txt file but I thought you had to reference it in the html somewhere and didn't know which page to do so. But now I see that you just put it in the public_html folder and the robots will see it. There is so so much to learn about all this stuff.

Thanks!

Cherie

why don't you just put links to the pages you want indexed with anchored keywords on the most often crawled page in your catalog?? then google will index them on the next pass.
