Default Upgrading from osCommerce to OscMAX

We recently bought a store that has been using osCommerce 2 MS2. I want to upgrade to OscMAX 1.7, and I'm wondering how best to do that. I haven't gone through an install process with osCommerce yet. I am a programmer by trade, but new to PHP.

Should I follow the installation instructions for "Moving an osCommerce store to a new server" on page 39 of Kerry Watson's technical manual, or are the database schemas not compatible? If no, how can I import existing customer and order history into OscMAX?

Thanks for any advice,

Regards,
John

download a complete sql file of the old site complete with data...you can then compare the sql file used to create MAX 1.7 (you can find this in the install directory)...by comparing the two files you wil be able to see what if any table and file changes that need to be addressed...after updating the old sql file to match you could then use it to load the new site

John,

You might want to copy the site locally and do a diff compare with a stock Oscommerce to see if they moded the store at all. If it is not moded at all from a stock Oscommerce then check for diffs with OSC MAX sql vs OSC sql (there is a mysql compare tool I listed in the OSCDOX section).

And I think it will be fairly straight forward from there to make your changes
