Default 500 Internal Server Error... Any suggestions

OS - Linux; Apache v. 1.3.33 (Unix); PHP v. 4.3.11; MySQL v. 4.1.8. I uploaded osCMax installation archive via cPanel's File Manager, unziped and changed all permissions accordingly to the oscMax guide. While trying to run http://www.my-site.com/catalog/install/ I receive this message: 500 Internal Server Error : The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request. cPanel's Error Log shows such a message: Premature end of script headers: /home/My-Site/public_html/catalog/install/index.php. Any ideas how to fix-solve this prob. TKVM in advance!!!

Well, well.... while waiting for guru replies, I made a 'dirty' job and installed osCMax on nther server with MySQL v.4.0.x without any prob. Furthermore, I tried osCommerce installation on that one with MySQL v. 4.1.8 and completed with success!!! So, if it is matter of diffrnt versions of MySQL, question still remains the same - how to solve this prob?????

    Hi,

I have not used the installer on a MySql 4.1.x server yet, so I cannot say exactly what the issue might be, but a 500 error can be caused by many things.

This can be caused by uploading files of the wrong format (ascii/binary).

It can also be caused if using PHP as CGI instead of being an Apache module.

It could also be as simple as permissions problems on files, or a misconfigured/bad .htaccess file.

Re-check file/dir permissions on all the installer files and remove/fix any .htaccess files that in your catalog or install directories.

Who are you hosting with? I just ran into a similar problem with my host and had to go thru and make sure that all php scripts were 755 (CHMOD) ...and then I was able to trip the install ... but had to do it manually ... the nice gui install would not go ... and it also was PHP as CGI.
