Default paypal problems

Hi,

I could really do with a reply to this asap...

I found out quite to my surprise that the paypal option on a site i have made is not working as it should. I only found this out when someone bought something. Basically, i have 2 problems. they are as follows:

the first is that the wrong information is being sent to paypal. Not a lot, but the item name is the company name, and the item number is the item name. Please could someone advise what i would need to change to sort this problem out.

The second problem, is that when something is bought via paypal, the orders section in the admin is not updated with the order. This causes problems as you may imagine. If something is bought pay on delivery, the orders are updated, everything is fine and dandy. so it is a problem with the paypal stuff.

NOTE: I have upgraded the board from osCommerce to OSCmax. To do this i had to manually swap the tables from one to the other. these 2 problems are the only problems i have, but i must have done something wrong.

I really need help fast as this is a live shop, and as i say, someone actually bought something tonight and i have had to refuse payment for it, hoping that they will return when the shop is fixed.

Please help.

Patrick

Default RE: paypal problems

I have the same problem. I'm finding the PayPal IPN to be less than perfect. I had 2 orders last week that show up in some parts of OSC, are emailed to me via paypal(and listed in my paypal account just fine), but other parts of OSC have nothing on the order.

Specifically, I can see the order in the PayPal IPN section under Payments, but when I look for orders, the orders are not there on these 2 orders last week.

I thought PayPal would be a good starting option, but every day, I grow closer and closer to shutting it off and setting up a merchant account. I just like the whole PayPal idea, since so many people carry balances and when people are shopping they see that balance as "free money" and seem to part with it a bit easier in my line of work.

I'll mess around with it for a short time more, but if it doesn't straighten up soon, it's going to be traded in for a merchant account.

Default RE: paypal problems

I made a nice excel spreadsheet to minimize merchant account costs. I think I'll turn that into a PHP page and let anyone use it.

Merchant accounts are just so much slicker. People I know hate dealing with paypal.

You are just not set up correctly. It works 100% when set up correctly. Check the many threads that already discuss this.

Problem 2 means that you are not getting the return from IPN at paypal.com. This can be due to incorrect setup at paypal either with IPN or Auto Return. Make sure you have the correct return url set up at paypal per the docs and have disabled auto return, both in the module and at paypal.

Thanks.
Can I just check, at PayPal, IPN is ON return URL is blank. Auto-return off (at PayPal).

In the module, turn auto-retun off? will it auto-return. We've always had problems with some customers paying, but not returning (so orders are not completed properly). What happens with this?

Cheers.

Yes in the module, turn off auto return. You are not using it, you are using IPN, so auto return is not needed.

we should put up a paypal IPN section in the wiki...personally I don't use it so I don't know what to contribute....but people who have had problems and subsequent solutions should post what they know.

just a thought.
