Default installation problem, hangs after database server, user name

I have a problem with installation of Ms2-max 1.7 After I finished the page with Database Server, Username, etc, the next page was not shown correctly. I could only see less than half of the background, and there was no errors in the page, I couldn't keep going.

Any one knows what's going on?

Have it running on win xp testing it, no problems, with php 4.3.9 and mysql 4.1, IIS 5

however when i setup on our server the above happens
win 2000 server running php 4.3.9 and mysql 4.1, IIS 5

    happens with both oscommerce-2.2ms2 and Ms2-max 1.7
only difrence is the operating system and that the testing server is local, and actual instalation is http authorised

    Any help would be appreciated
    thanks
    Chris

If you are using IIS 5 - so be it.
I have used EasyPhp - installs mySql, Php, phpMyAdmin & Apache - older versions of mySql, Php but works fine under WinDoze.

I have found the problem to be that php never saw the mysql service, so i got rid of both instalations and installed mysql first then php.
Everything worked fine then, i tried this earlier but think there was still some php files resident in the system.

Believe me i'd rather be using a linux server with apache, however its the hosting my client is currently with, so i'll live with it for now.
till i convince him to switch hosting.
