New install..Database connection problems

I am trying to instal Max, when I run the install and enter all the database info , it then runs for about 5-8 minutes and then gives the message
"New Installation

Database Import

A test connection made to the database was NOT successful.

The error message returned is:

Lost connection to MySQL server during query

If you require help with your database server settings, please consult your hosting company




I am using the Plesk interface on my root server to generate the database.

you are using "localhost" as your database address correct? We run PLESK almost exclusively for our hosting customers and dont have this issue at least not with our servers. You may get this if the Mysql service is VERY busy, as i have seen it time out on queries if the mysql service is near 80% or higher. If you have SSH access login and use the # top command to view services and the percentage of the processor each is using and see if your mysql service is just slammed.

If you are not using "localhost" as your database address, you should be, at least on plesk boxes.
