    Default Fresh Install.....

Alright, I've screwed up my osCMax Install somethin fierce. So I want to just start with a fresh install, but I don't want to loose any of my products or their attributes. So what would be my best course of action? Which osCMAx version do you recommend?

    Thanks,

    Adam

I also want to keep my templates that I've got....but they're BTS Templates so that shouldn't be a problem.

    Thanks,

    Adam

depends how you've screwed it up. If the database is ok but the files are messed up then just copy all the files from a new copy across.

If the db is knacked then you'll probably have to carefully export the product and attribute-related tables from the db and import into the new install. This is not too hard but, you need to know what you are doing.

    you'll need:
    products
    products_attributes
    products_attributes_download
    products_description
    products_options
    products_options_values
    products_options_values_to_products_options
    products_to_categories

    and categories tables:
    categories
    categories_description
you'll probably also need to delete any manufacturers and ordersbefore exporting as otherwise you'll end up with dodgy records. Either that or export manf/orders tables too, but then you might as well export most of the db!! (and it might be dodgy).

Of course the best solution would be to fix the problems you've caused, it might not be as hard as you think!!

actually I just thought of an easier way, if the easypopulate still works on your dodgy install, just export using that and then import into the new one.

you should be able to just copy the templates across.

So is v1.7 the best version to go with? I also don't really mind re-entering the manufacturer's but I've got over 2000 products that I don't want to start over with. But I need to keep the orders as well.

run a test. Set up a fresh install as a separate site on your localhost, then try exporting the easypopulate as I (eventually) got around to suggesting. Try and import into the new site. Test. If it works then run with it, if not, decide what to do next!

Well my browser keeps timing out when I attempt to download the complete easy populate file.

    oh dear

that seems to be a very common problem, I thought it might be when you said you had 2000 products, easypopulate just can't cope with that. I've made several scripts to get around it for my own sites but at the moment they are too specific to my sites to issue as a mod. One day* I will make them into an improved version of easypopulate.

for now, you need to export the database tables using phpmyadmin in that case. It could get a bit complicated....
