Default Newbie questions on CC processing and Multiple Prices

Hello All!
I am building a store based on Max after spending a lot of time playing with other carts!
So far so good but I do have couple of questions!
1. Do I have to enable the AUthroize.Net module to use CCs? Or just enabling Credit Card module is enough?

2. How do I add more Customer groups for pricing? I see it shows Retail but how do I add Wholesale, or other special groups?

Any help is appreciated.
Thanks
G

Answer to your first Question. You need to setup an account with Authrize.net if that is who you are going to use as your CC agent. YOu will need to get the info that it is requestion from authrize.net then do some tests to make sure its processing correctly.

Now for number 2 Unless you have a contribute installed that makes this change then by default I don't think max has that ability. Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks Sabre2000
I should have made the first question clear - I know I need an authorize.net account to use their services. In the MAX2 1.7 package there is an option in the Payment Methods Admin screen to enable Authorize.net. This results in the Check Out process showing Authroize.net as a payment option (similar to credit cards, PayPal etc.). My understanding was that authorize.net is a background operation not visible to the general customer - my question is if I disable this option in the Payment Methods screen will I lose the authroize.net back-end functionality or does it still exist for regular CC processing.

On the 2nd one, MAX 1.7 has the Multiple Prices contrib installed. That's the reason I can even see the pricing option of Retail. Now how do I add other groups is my question.

TIA
G

giyer,

to question 1 - You must have the authorize.net module installed if you are using authorize.net to process your credit card orders.

If you would like to process the card yourself you may use the credit card method and the credit card numbers will be stored in yourt database and you can process yourself. You would see the credit card number when you click edit on tthe order screen.

Question 2 - You must go to an already cresated customer page and make a new group where the text box on the bottom says retail. When a new customer creates an account they are by default placed in the retail customer group. You must manually go to this customers account from the admin screen and type "Wholesale" (or whatever you want to call the group.) and click update. The customer will now be in the wholesale group.

To create special wholesale pricing you must specify this when entering products. Now when the customer logs in to your store they will see there special pricing. They will see retail pricing by default when they come to your store. They must log in to see there special group pricing.

I hope this helps some. If you need more clarification please let me know and I will see what i can do to help.

Good luck with your endeavor.

to create new customer group

update- You must go to the customers screen and highlight the account you want to edit. click edit. On the bottom of this page you will see a text box with retail typed into the box. erase this and type in your new customer group.

Thank you so much Fridgemags! I experimented before I saw your reply and ended up with a group called Retail,Wholesale!!!!!! Anyways that was not real production so no harm!

My only odd question on Authorizenet module is that when I enable it in the Admin menu, it actually shows as one of the Payment Options. Now nearly all of the sites I have bought stuff from do not actually show Authrozenet as a payment option ! So I am confused as to if I should enable the Authroizenet option in the Payment Modules screen in Admin or not. The module seems to be installed by default in MAx 1.7 which I am using.

May be I have a problem understaning the difference between installing the Authorizenet module and enabling it in the Payment modules in Admin!

Any help is really appreciated!
