Default Help migrating to OSC Max

I need to migrate my MS2 catalog to OSCMax 1.5.5

I have tried mysqldiff but I am out of my league and I havent seen any other posts about this so I figured the community might help me and we could have a nice walkthrough.

I have an osc store with a couple minor contribs and want to take advantage of all the new features of the OSC max without re-inventing the wheel and modding it up myself.

Would anyone be interested in helping me do this migration and documenting it?

Upgrading the various flavors of existing STORES based on OSC to MS2-MAX is not easy or for the faint of hart....

Some questions:

If there are contribution in your old exisitng OSC site - are these already included in the MAX version?
Are there Database changes for these mods that you had added?

Next:
Install MS2-MAX and mod it the way you want.

Do a MYSQL DUMP (the "backup" feature does this) in BOTH systems....(Backup!)

Compare the files using a compare tool (like Beyond Compare)

Using this tool - match up lines and copy any new ones from MAX to your OLD database.

Take care on lines that have a bit of differnet data - like items in the "configuration" - you must have no duplicated line ID numbers. You may have to modify the ID numbers to match - they may be not in the same order.....(always keep your orgional line/ID numbers....)

DO NOT copy MAX's sample data....

Import into your MAX site (or setup a 3rd database and use max to test this set out) - Use the "restore" option in MAX. (look for any errors on import...)

Test....

Once it works then your ready to "move" the live site ...... "down your OLD site" then repeat the above - but with 2 new sets of backups.....it should be easier now....as the config lines should match....

Test/verify...

Then open your new site.....

Good Luck!

Never thought of comparing flat files... Good idea!

I will see how that goes. Thanks.
