YOU DO NOY HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER ON SERVER

I HAVE INSTALLED OTHER VERSIONS OF OSCOMMERCE BEFORE AND HAVE JUST TRIED INSTALLING MS2-MAX. WHEN I GET TO INSTALL IT AFTER UPLOADING THE CATALOG I GET THE ERROR MESSAGE ABOVE.
mY SERVER IS MY OWN AND I HAVE PHP 4 RUNNING AND OTHER SITES WITH PHP WORK AS DO OTHER VERSIONS OF OSCOMMERCE.

I HAVE DELETED AND REINSTALLED THIS THREE TIMES NOW JUST TO MAKE SURE I AM FOLLOWING THE INSTRUCTIONS RIGHT AND I STILL GET THIS ERROR.
IN THE INSTRUCTIONS HOWEVER IT REFERS TO PHPMYADMIN, WHICH I HAVE RUNNING ON THE SERVER, BUT THE INSTRUCTIONS DONT SEEM TO BEAR ANY RESEMBLANCE TO THE VERSION I HAVE (2.5.3)
    ANY HELP GREATLY APPRECIATED

frosty0705, make sure your folder permissions are correct. CHMOD 775 on all folders except temp and images, which should be CHMOD 777.

Then make sure your configure.php files are CHMOD 777 as well.

I am thinking that this isnt a chmod issue as it wouldnt usually come up with an internal server error for chmod problems

You said the error was : YOU DO NOY HAVE PERMISSION TO ACCESS THIS FOLDER ON SERVER which I interpreted as 403 Forbidden, not 500 Internal Server Error.

Since it is a 500 error, check to see that you uploaded files in ASCII, not Binary. If that checks out, time to start looking through error logs for apache to see if there is any useful info there...

Thanks for that , have checked that it was uploaded in ASCII by deleting it all and using cuteftp to force ASCII UPLOAD am now trying to upgrade php to 4.3.4 to see if that helps. Will let you know how i am doing.
