Wanting to upgrade paypal to most recent ... simple question

I'm using MAX v1.7 with the default paypal module. I'm having the problems with getting info back from paypal to update the customer's order. I've been searching the forums for paypal related topics and have found a lot but nothing for my specific question...

I want to upgrade my paypal module but I do not know which IPN to use. I've looked here:

... but I do not know which one to choose. I tried upgrading to 3.0a only to find well into the process that the documentation was or MAX 2.2 instead of v1.7. Any idea what I should do?

Ether upgrade to MAX 2.0 or try to add in v3.1.5
