Default Has anyone tried using layers to layout store?

I am wondering if anyone has used layers to design there ms2-max design?

If so, what are the pitfalls or design issues I may runm into.

I would like to do this because column left puts alot of code and pushes my page content pretty fay down the page, As far as a spider is concerned.

I know how to use layers for an html page but do not know if it will work with dynamic pages as each pages content varies in size.

    Any ideas?

    Thanx

    oh sorry,

I have used layers to bring the content of the pages just below the <body> tag

I need to know if it is showing properly for people using different os and browsers.

I am currently gradually moving most of my sites across to "layers" (or css as it's usually known!). I have made myself a stripped-down version of OSCMAX where I removed all the table and layout tags and replaced them with a very few, more generalised css styles. Since I'm still testing it I've only used it on my own shop site, not a client's, you can see it here:

    http://www.justridingalong.co.uk/index.php?cPath=5

If you look at some other pages you'll see some table tags left in, but eventually they will go. Most of them are left from where I lifted the product description of the old site.

It's a right pain stripping all tables from osc as they are buried deep in some classes/functions (bad programming style - but we'll let them off ) so the next step would be to attack these, for example some of the info boxes.

Another site which I've started migrating over to css is here:

    http://www.hargrovescycles.co.uk/pro...oducts_id=4773

The header and column_left are still tables but the main product page is all css, which has saved about 5K per page, a significant saving of download time and bandwidth. Bandwidth especially since there are 3000 views of that page per day, so 15mb/day saving just on product_info, and it will be a lot more once I've finished the rest of the site.

i don't notice much of a difference. It looks pretty stock to me, using Firefox. There aren't any problems, I'm just wondering what visual changes were made?

Vince, I think the point is not the actual design, but rather that it is displaying properly using CSS instead of tables. Not noticing a difference is a good thing in this case...
