    Mike -
It works, but I had to make a slight change because I too could not figure out how to up load to the thumbs directory. -- I *think* that you would not enter into the field as you are trying to do. I *think* there must be a way to configure thumbs as the default upload drive. As a work around, go to the config file and select the mo Pics option.

change this setting from true to false:
    Main Thumbnail In Thumb Directory

If you have your pics in the correct directories, with the correct naming conventions:
Voila, like magic, it will work.

What I'm not sure of is if this change will affect something else.

Just to be a little clearer, You don't go to the config file -- go into your admin panel and select configuration. then select the dynamic mo pics option.

    Default hmmmm....

annea03, I have been adding images my way for about 2 months, and it works fine every time. I may be doing it slightly differently than my instructions above. I will go over the process and see what I come up with...

mike_steinhoff, that would be because you have not chmodded your dir to be writeable. Must be 666 or 777. It will not show up automatically, your expectation is incorrect, since the image is stored in the database. How would the image location get into the database? You have to put it there, thus the requirement to add thumbs/imagena.jpg

Also, you should not upload the images to the thumbs dir until AFTER you enter its path in the products page. I think that is where I made the mistake in my instructions. I always upload the images after I create the product image path.

Mike - another thing that will give you trouble, be sure that you have your picture type set correctly in the configuration. The default is gif. if you are using something else, change it. Otherwise, your pictures won't show up.

I have completely removed the store and reinstalled. I am completely confused as it makes no sense what is going on. When I click on the images to make them big it looks to the thumbs folder..WHY????

ok..i have tested this and tested this...osc will not let me enter in the image field thumbs/imagename.gif. It does not upload that path to the database. The only way I am able to get it to function is if I use the browse function and upload the picture. I have the images/thumbs/images_big directories all chmod'd to 777.

I really need this to work, any help appreciated.

Please visit http://www.dragonbay.com/catalog and visit the test section. You will notice that the path for the picture is the images directory NOT the thumbs directory. You will also notice that when clicking on the enlarge picture option the path to the image is /thumbs... NOT /images_big. I would be happy to give someone admin access if they can show me how this works.

I swear I did nothing but install the software.

    Thanks Mike

    Look in the admin
    configuration
    mo pics
what is the setting for this:
Main Thumbnail In Thumb Directory (true / false) - My setting is false. My main picture points to catalog/images - the others to the thumbs directory.

Also, you need to FTP your picture into the thumbs directory. These are a bit confusing to me, but I think the name of the picture you put into the thumbs directory should be: 2-1_pic1.gif

I'm having a little trouble with my pictures today too. I reinstalled and am re-setting everything up. My problem is that on the store side, everything looks OK, but on the admin side, I'm seeing redX. It's pointing to my local drive - I renamed those files so they aren't there. Can you check the properties in your admin for the product and see if it is pointing to your c:drive?

    Thanks and good luck.

my settings are main thumbnail = true. I want the thumbnais in the thumbs directory and the larger images to the images_big directory. I did FTP the .gifs up to the server, using ws-ftp and file manager in osc...neither worked.

I have created a new test section with toy trucks in it, hopefully that will help with the names of the .gifs

I have edited my previous post with detailed information of the steps I have taken to get this to work. I know this should not be that hard, I am just missing something. Please view my last post in this thread.

    Thanks

    Mike

I'm having the same problem. All the pics are showing up from /thumbs, after I clicked on enlarge it shows the same pic with original size. Not from the image_big dir. If I turn off the "Main Thumbnail In Thumb Directory ", It can't show even pop up the enlarge pic. Any solution?
    thanks

Thats the spirit, if you cant figure it out, give up

It really is a matter of how you set it up. Every person that has said it doesn't work, when I upload the images and set the path on their store, it works fine. I have their images setup within 5 minutes on a test product. All you have to do is copy the format of the test product that is already set up ... The hardware:: Printers product with all the pics...

If it is working on that sample product on your store, which it is, and not working on your other products, then you are just setting it up wrong. Perhaps I am different than most, but I found it extremely simple and fast to setup, and have not had a problem on any install of MS2-MAX that I have been asked to look at. It works on all of them, just user error in setting it up.

Look for a step by step guide with examples coming soon. That should put this to rest once and for all.
