Default osCMax in relation ocCommerce

I'm wondering what the relationship is between osCMax and the original osCommerce software package? Is it an osC/osCMax collaboration?

What's the story?

Thanks,
C

Nope. No relationship at all. Completely separate projects.

Cool. What was the inspiration behind starting osCMax? I mean, is osCMax's version of osCs original software better than the original somewhow? Please don't point me to your features page... I'm hoping to hear from a developer why osCMax is better than osC.

Thanks,
C

It is better, only if you need the features that are added.

The whole point of osCMax is to already have the most needed features already included, so that you don't have to spend 3 weeks re-coding all of them. Multiply that by the thousands of osC users out there, and that is a lot of programming hours saved.

osCMax also adds a template system which is missing from osC standard at the moment, and of course the many other mods and enhancements, which simply make the cart much more useful out of the box.

By the way, osCMax has been in available for about 2.5 years now...

Ok, makes sense. I guess I was confused as to why there were two separate dev groups working on osC code. When osC release ms3, will you incorporate that into your releases?

Also, has your new osCMax code undergone any security audits? My biggest gripes with open source solutions (which I totally support) is that they are sometimes security risks (e.g. phpBB).

osC has done several security audits that they release on their website. Do you do the same?
