I need some help with a bug fix (GV/CC + zero balance)

I am lost on how to do the upgrade to the current version. Please could someone help me (maybe write down the important steps for me)

If i had known this bug was there i'd have fixed it before i opened my shop - but silly me, when i tested it out, i didn't find this one (i guess i like to spend all my vouchers in one go!!!)

Appreciate any advise i can get. I tried to install oscmax locally on my home machine and it wouldn't work so i'm not sure how to do such a complex fix without stuffing up what works.

Please can I have some clues where to find the error for this, or how to fix it. I have a coding friend that took a look for me but he is not a PHP guy and couldn't find it straight away. He did offer to fix it for me but said it would take a few days.

If someone could tell me how to fix it, I can pass the info on to him and he will test it out on his system at home (that way my live store stays functioning)
