PayPal IPN how-to? [EDIT - Now with Wiki page]

[EDIT - This topic has led to me creating a WIKI page. It is incomplete and prbably fairly inaccurate (especially since I haven't got it working myslef yet). I hope that we can get this document complete and usefull so we can point others to it.

Does a PayPal IPN how-to exist?

It's pretty confusing with the hundreds of posts concerning various versions of the paypal IPN and OSC in the forums as to how to set it up.

I have it installed but what I really need is a full list of settings for both the module setup and paypal's site for MAX 1.7 as I am a complete novice and have never manged to get it to work properly.

I've looked through the PayPal IPN topics on this forum, the oscommerce.com forum, the knowledge base, paypals IPN manual and the documentation on this site but I still haven't managed to set it up correctly.

If a how-to doesn't exist I'm willing to have a go at writing one if I ever get my paypal IPN to work fully.

Anything I can do to help with this, I will, as I haven't managed to get mine working at a level I'm happy with yet. Stay in contact via PM'ing me and I'll help all I can, and once it's done, you can post the info in the wiki.

The new "official" osC contribution is very easy to install and use.

I don't use max, but I do use the BTS and I think the installation is the same with or without max and/or BTS (really very easy).

To be honest, I've read so many posts on this site and on the OSC site about Paypal, I now have no clue what I have, what's right, what's wrong, what needs to be changed.

I do know that my orders were being passed through, and are not now, and I didn't change a single character on my site or on PayPal. I still get the order via PayPal, but nothing's coming into my admin now.

I guess if I read a few 100 more posts about it, maybe I'll find the answer. I'm SOOOO confused (not uncommon).

It turns out I had a version of MAX 2.2 that had something wrong with the IPN files. I uninstalled that and installed the latest paypal ipn contribution which is working pretty well except that it's not updating stock levels.

Ok, I've created a WIKI page with some initial information, there are also plenty of FIME's. If you can please have a go at fixing them.

It probably is not very usefull at the moment (I still haven't got it working) but hopefully we can get it to a level that everyone can follow and get PayPal IPN working.

Let me see if I understand that correctly- you went into the modules section, and clicked on "PayPal" and uninstalled that there?

Wasn't the PayPal_shopping_IPN contribution what was in MAX? Isn't that different that the contribution you re-installed?

Yes, I uninstalled the module that came with my MAX installation. The contribution I installed was PayPal IPN Module v1.0 for 2.2MS2. It's nice and easy to set up and if I could just get it to subtract stock it would be perfect.

OK, now I've found a different one. http://www.oscommerce.com/community/.../search,paypal The install instructions are pretty huge. Should I install this one, or is this waht alread comes with max?

I do believe that's the one that comes installed with MAX. That's what my question was. Maybe there is someone on here that's actually using PayPal on Max's core install that's running like a champ.

Anyone out there doing this? If so, can you step front and center please and let us pick your settings?

If I understand this correctly, the PayPal_ShoppingCart one you linked to works on passing more and more data to the cart, where as the other contribution didn't pass all that info to the cart.

Again, if we can find someone who's using it, post their settings here, maybe we'll all benefit.
