I feel osCommerce is more of a do-it-yourself thing. There are parts that have become somewhat automated, but I like fiddling around with tihngs that are not listed anywhere, and them posting it to help others out. I have had many FTP problems using SmartFTP, it seems it leaves the last 2 folders out of each directory. Each time I do a new installation of osCommerce, I find out about the missing files within 5 minutes, sometimes soonser because usually it doesn't transfer the /install directory. I think a lot of it has to do with the server, because with iPower it works a lot better than the $10/year reseller hosts on eBay. I still have problems with iPower, so I'm sure some if it is also the problem. Luckily, it's not random files that are missing, but directories, so I don't have to go around adding lots of individual files. I don't think a file checker script is necessary. Just my 2 cents.

Where's the wget location of the updated oscdox tar files? I go to the download section and it's a dynamic link with a download id. Where's the actual location of the tar file?

Not on this site. wget is not allowed from here - too many abusers. I put it on one of my administrative servers and limit access to my network, so I can wget the tarball to any one of my servers for fast install.
