Default USPS rates wrong?

I'm using the USPS for shipping and my zip code and address info are correct in the configuration of my store, but it always seems to calculate a bit off. An example, my customer was charged $6.95 for a 2 lb package and when I took it to the post office, it cost me $3.95.

This seems to be happening on local, national, and international orders as well.

Anyone else find the rates on the high side?

My rates on my USPS module seem to be right on. I actually bump up my weights on purpose because I ship insured priority as some of the items are delicate.

Good luck finding the error. Let us know what you find.

Just had an international order yesterday to the UK. Charged the guy $20 for 2 lbs, cost me $8 at the post office. If it were a slight difference, I wouldn't care, but surely someone who's paid $20 for shipping and sees the postmark for $8 is going to be hot. I'm having to credit money back to them for these types of orders.

You have something set wrong in your shop. It is probably adding a fee to shipping somewhere. Start digging through you admin, and the order totals area. Also check your shipping zones.

Default RE: USPS rates wrong?

I'm still having problems with International Orders going through the USPS system. When people order a 1 pound item from the store, it's always $20. Doesn't matter if it's going to the UK, Germany, Italy, it's always $20 (for Global Priority Mail). When I actually ship it, it almost always costs me $10.

However, when the weight goes up, and breeched the $20 mark, the rates seem right on. For instance, a 4 pound box might be $28 actual cost, and that's exactly what price is given. This seems to work for airmail as well. I shipped a 14 pound package and the price was almost perfect, to the UK.

I have no minimum fee's set up, I have no handling charges on the USPS module, and my mimimum tare weight is set at .5 .

The rates work perfect for the US, but anything overseas seems to have this minimum of $20 that I can't figure out. I suspect that people entered their addresses and postal codes in a manner that doesn't allow for the USPS module to look them up properly, but that's just a guess.

Anyone have any insight into this, or what might be wrong?
