Images not loading or loading slowly

I'm working on a new store and I thought I was close to finishing, so I had a friend look it over and the feedback I got back was that the header loaded when they went in, but as they went out and came back into the site or hit the refresh button, the header did not display. Then, they would refresh and it would come back.

I hadn't had the problem. So, I came back, went into the store, it loaded fine and I kept hitting the refresh button. Some times the page would load instantly, some times, you'd see certain images being downloaded and taking forever. All on a cable modem. One time, it appears to lose most of the graphics of the store and reverted back to just text menus. I mean product images, as well as the header.

I had caching turned off, it's on a dedicated server with only a few things on the server. When I turned caching on, I made the directory /home/blah/blah/blah/tmp/ . This didn't seem to change anything.

Oh, and all the graphics used are small in size. All less than 30k and it's only about 6 on the screen.

Any ideas?

Could be a connectivity issue. If the images are optimized, and you are still getting problems, I would look for packet loss or latency on your connection to the server.
