Ok guys this is a tricky one. this i what i wanna do. For alot of my products i do not have images. but i do have catalogs. so is there a way to make the item show up only when searched for and not show up in the online shop when visitors are just browsing?

What do you mean you have catalogs? Paper catalogs, PDF's??? If I'm browsing your shop, if things aren't showing up, what's the point of visiting your shop?

Rephrase your question and go into more detail and maybe we can help.

If I am understanding it right, for the ones you only want to be found when searching, do not put in a category. Put the ones you want people to find when they're browsing in a category. Is this what you mean?

If this is the case you can set your shop up like this assuming:

Product_visible - Product you want to show in the catalog
Product_invisible - Product you want to show only when searching

Structure:

>Category_1
>Product_invisible
>Product_invisible
>Product_invisible
>>SubCategory_1
>>Product_visible
>>Product_visible
>>Product_visible
>Category_2
>Product_visible
>Product_visible
>Product_visible
>Product_visible
>Product_visible

In short, the only way I can think to do this is to have at least one sub-category. Hope this helps
