remove mainpage.php or at least the extra white space at top

does anyone know how to make it so the mainpage.php doesn't come up. if I go into the admin panel and remove all the text, it still takes up about an inch of white space at the top of the page below the header

another solution would be to limit the amount of white space at the top of the main page?

You must modify the index_default.tpl.php file in your catalog>templates>content file

There you will see the header and remove it

I was able to take out mainpage, but there is still an unsightly gap of white space at the top of the content area. I've spent hours trying to figure out where it's coming from...anybody got any ideas? I am running the most recent ms2-max. maybe it's something to do with this dhtml thing..

nevermind......I found it, it was a line break (<br>) just before default specials.php was called at the bottom of the index_default.tpl.php. can't believe I spent hours on that thinking it was some complex thing like a CSS margin setting or a nested tables position tag, or something else....oh well, I learned a lot about how OSCommerce is put together and how CSS's work.
