Adding a box

I have accessed and followed - to the letter - the documentation on adding a box to the left column of my store: the box is created, it displays the correct title, and link title in the box, but I cannot for the life of me make the link link to the the appropriate document. I'm going nuts over this.

I did a lilttle more reading and found a way around this "problem" - it works, but I would sure like to know the correct way of doing this.
