Default Looking for advice on adding OSC contribs to MAX

    Hi All,

I have been looking for posts related to adding OSC contribs to MAX. I know I have seen several posts while searching for other things, but now when I NEED them, I can't find them.

Something about mods that the contrib says to be made to ... have to be made in the /templates directory of MAX in order to work, or something like that.

    What about the admin side?

So, can someone please point me to one of msasek's more detailed posts on this topic.

I've been searching and I can't find one.

    thanks,
    Tim

BTS (Basic Template System) that is in MAX only affects the CATALOG side. There is little reasion to template the ADMIN side so no one really has added a BTS the admin side.

And I may mention if you "remove" or alter the link/copywrite as to NOT to mention or point to OSC - this could be a TRADEMARK/COPYWRITE infringment (IE you be in 'Legal Hot Water'!).

You can add/remove fuctions and even change the colors and some formating (via CSS) and the ICONS too - if you wish. But few people need to change the setup or the "feal" of the admin for it to work - after all the end customer does not see or care about how your ADMIN screens look like or fuction (That is - as long as they get what they paid for).

Now for BTS - if you look at the standard OSC file and the BTS files version of it - you will see MOST of the code is exactly the same - except for the first part is shorter and is stored in the orgianl file name - should include MOST of the "raw" php code. But the majority of the code - (that is defined in the OLD code as being the bulk of the HTML output) is now moved to the template directory with the same file name but with the extention of .tpl.php.

So basically if you want to add a existing contribution - look for the CODE that it modifies and then look in BOTH of the BTS for simular code in the aprox same place to chage it. Watch out for code/variable than MAX (or other contributions) added/changed on some lines of code.

Mostly it is easy - except for where and existing contrib and the item you want to add may conflict over changes to the SAME lines of code. But you would have the same problem if was OSC without the BTS installed.

    Good Luck
