Less customer info?

I am setting up a shop that principally sells downloads. Is it possible to request less information from the customer, require fewer fields to be filled?

We're using the Paypal IPN and they can get the info on their site but it makes folks post it twice if we require it and we think we are loosing sales because of it.

I didn't see any mention of this in these forums or the contribes.

With a little bit of editing in the creat account page you can require less fields.
