Default Linking to Categories from index.htm

"Hi All,
I have trouble linking the categories to their respective products....What I mean is that I have a bunch of links on the index page (Baby,Kids,Boys,Girls,New Born etc). Now,how do I link the Kids category when I click on Kids on the navigation bar?I see that some of the sites have cpath=21, index.php?cPath=22 etc...How would I do that?

Thanks and Regards
Whazzy "

"It is pretty easy. Just navigate to the page you want to link to in osCommerce and copy the url out of the address bar in your browser. Then use that to link to the page. Make sure you remove the session ID from the link though."

I couldn't believe how easy it was, I was trying to setup queries in dreamweaver......
What I did notice after I had previewed the page was that with the session id stripped you were basically left with the category number from the Categories table on the database.
You can easily find what the category numbers are by browsing the categories table.

(i already had a list, having set them up in the admin first. I have read the pertinent manuals and read me's now . thanks Mike)

To link to sub categories, just suffix the (put on the end of) Uri with /index.php?cpath=categorynumber_subcategory number.
So this would take the form of
Http://www.isthatgeezer_an_eejit_orw...hp?cpath=32_39

Mike's explanation was excellently simple, but I had quite a few categories to link in that fashion and yegods! It was taking ages....

Hope this helps,
Billy
