Product notification not being sent

I noticed that the nofitication is not sent to a customer who has subscribed to the notification about the product. Do I need to activate notification somehow?
I edited product description, price and quantity of the product. Surely that should be enough to trigger a notification?

At least the order confimation and order update emails from the oscommerce installation leave just fine...

Do product notifications get sent also the the customers that are logged in at the moment?

If no one knows what could be the cause to my problem, perhaps somebody would know how to remove product notification feature from the store completely? Not having it is less bad than having a nonfunctional one.

Oh, I finally figured it out: Product notifications are not automatic but need to be written by hand just like newsletters.
