Thanks guys for all your input.

Google has indexed about 100 pages of my site within a month and I finally determined that it does actually read the page content. Spider simulators had gotten me confused as some werent able to read the page content.

Google and other major spiders are able to handle to dynamic sites fine....thats true but since I am getting good results with SE safe URL so far ( except for the broken code ofcourse) I am going to leave it unchanged for now.

    Hey Stando,
So you basically just installed the oscdox download as is? doesn't it already have the sid killer or am I wrong? if it does not, can you post a link to the contribution you used?
Also can you post your links so we can look at it? are you being indexed now by google? also, do you have any Page Rank (PR) yet? Let me know.
I am really big into SEO (Search engine marketing) with straight HTML sites and want to get this dynamic site to do the same.
    Thanks
    Winks

spider.text..file tells spider (google, msn etc ) what to index and what not to index. Most of the major spiders would look for this file when they visit a website. you can tell them what not to look at....such as your admin...

if you dont have this file...they will index whatever they can look at.
    cheers

stando - spider.txt is a text file that "good" search engines and spiders look for and follow the rules layed out in it as to what it may look into to include or excluded in "spidering" your site. There is many other sites you could find out more on how spider.txt works - do a Google search on 'spider.txt rules'

Guest - MS2 and thus MS2-MAX already has a basic SID (Session ID) killer included (a part of which is spider.txt) - this is not a ''Search Engine Friendly" or SEF links option - the one included as stated often does not work - or atleast properly on ALL servers/configurations.

For other people who don't know what we are talking about - a SID Killer will prevent a Spider from visiting Dynamic pages like OSC make - each time it visit it "generates" a new SID thus the search engine may think it is a new page and index it. When it then does is it revisit these new pages and find a NEW SID again...thus goes into a VERY big loop downloading your site (and using up your bandwhith and preventing OTHER people from visiting your site). A SID Killer then STOPS this from happening and "forces" the Spider to a "static" link (with NO SID) instead. So when they index it and SOMEONE other than the spider goes to that "static" link - they get the required PAGE and then the server could then issue a SID to that customer if they go anywhere else in your site.

You can go ahead and INSTALL MAX - enter all your "required" data (including using the included DYNAMIC META-TAG function for search engines). Depending on how GOOD your data is - you should get each page index quite well. Many people get top ranking (say in the top 50) on all pages and a few get very high if they use unique (from other pages in your site) and accurate keys that MATCH your item/pages - many can get in the top 5-10 - no problem.

Remember Search engine placement is not an "exact" science. There is several discussions about what works and what does not. If you "rubber stamp" everything with the same thing and over load it - you could get a very LOW rank easily. Mostly it is a trial and error to get the best rank. But if you have some experance then you already have a head start.

    Good Luck
