Checkout error

I ran into a small problem when testing my checkout ... on the "confirm your order" stage of checkout, I get the following error in the "Billing Information" block between "Billing Address" and "Payment Method" and also in the "Shipping Address" block.

Warning: htmlspecialchars() expects parameter 1 to be string, array given in /usr/blah, blah, blah/www/catalog/includes/functions/general.php on line 42

I haven't been able to determine what it is. Anyone know how to fix it?

yup ... change the country of the the account and you'll see it won't appear anymore ...

Change the country on which account? If you mean the test account, I made a modification to the create_account.tpl.php pages so it would not ask for a country anymore. I commented out the PHP and JavaScript code, and removed the country drop down menu all together.

I did this because I don't plan to ship outside the US, so I didn't need any country list.

Is there a way I can have it both ways? No country dropdown but no error?

Would it be better to just place the country list back into the system? I have still been unable to determine what will cause the error to "go away" without having a country list.

This suggestion was made to me ... but as usual, I am trying to find an easier way to fix the issue.
