Default Is there some orderly presentation of the documentation

    Hi,
I've been working for several weeks now trying to modify oscommerce. I've been largely UNsuccessful. I'm trying to add a new database table to process some supplemental information related to customers using MS2 Max 1.5

The biggest problem that I have is the inability to find certain snippets of code. It seems that as I search the forums and get leads, I'm unable to capitalize on those leads as it's not always clear which version is being discussed. I'll spend hours doing such research only to find out the code snippets I'm searching for are no longer being used in MS2 MAX1.5 or they have migrated to different files in this version.

Is there any place where there is a clear presentation of which files do what? I know others have been greatly successful but I just can't seem to get a handle on how this system works. At least not enough to make my modifications.
    Thanks

the easiest way to find code snippets is (assuming you are using a Windows PC) is to search from your start button. I generally search for files named *.php and put a partial string into the 'containing text' box. I agree it can be confusing on the main oScommerce site as some of the threads relate to different versions. I always start by searching here for a solution for obvious reasons.
I've also decided to mod MS2 MAX as little as possible and to stick with this product through its upgrades. You may have to wait for some mods but you are likely to end up with a much more stable install. Just my 2 pence (or cents) worth.

Cause MS2-MAX uses BTS - anything in ANY modification - unless based on BTS - that has HTML output on the catalog side - has had most if not all the code MOVED to the templates section.

There is MANY MODS already ADDED into to MAX - requiring many files to be changed.

If your MORE specific on what you want and where and on which pages - (give detail or mockups, URL to your prior posts...) we might be able to help out better.

If you give details and if it can be used "globally" we might be able to include it in MAX 1.8 or 2.0

    Default thanks for response

    Hi,
So many stores offer a small percentage of the sale price of the item as a contribution to a nonprofit organization (like schools). And that 's what I wanted to do.

The process would be to allow customers to select a nonprofit to contribute to from a drop down menu when creating/editing their account. Then, when they complete the purchase, the sale amount (before tax and shipping) would be sent to a table along with the organization they chose to support through their purchase. The amount to contribute tp their organization would be calculated based upon the percentage of the sale amount.

So after a purchase, in addition to everything else osCommerce does, I wanted to add the sale amount, calculate the contribution to the selected organization, and then store it in another table for future retrieval.

I don't know if this would have general appeal to the larger osCommerce audience; it's just a key feature of a site I wanted to do to help raise funds for local groups.

    Thanks again for any help.

Is it just a straight mod by editor and then see what happens or is there a way to make mods via the admin area to the bts?
