admin freezes while working

Hi,
I have a working store based on version 1.7 - I have a problem that while working in the admin section, loading new products or anything actually after a few minutes it just freezes and I get no response - none of the links work.
To solve this I have to close the browser and wait a few minutes and then it will work for a while and then the same the same thing happens again.
So my question is, is this somehow software related or is the problem with the hosting company? When the admin section freezes I can still view the website, so the site isn't down, it is just the admin/mysql part - could there be an issue with the hosting company and the database server, and if so, what could solve this as it is very tedious and time consuming trying to load products.

Have you added or changed anything recently to your site ?

Sounds like a problem with the server, not your coding. Freezing is usually related to database issues, corruption, memory problems etc.
