    Default Employment Opening

We were told that to upgrade to osCommerce 2.3.1 with the newer features and a better looking template, the price would be very high. Someone suggested we hire an experienced professional from this site in order to see if the quote is lower and more reasonable.

After looking at some of the other quotes on the net, we came up with the following list (some of which may be duplicative, while others may not be available at all for osCmax or Oscommerce):

The draconian requirements make me (for one) look the other way! Why give a cheap(er), more value add service and get no recognition, for example?

Our employment opening is not for everyone, for sure. Our staff is comprised of those who serve at the pleasure of the entire team, and to not use the company as a platform to promote customer leakage toward individual profits at the expense of the team.

(Much to my displeasure has been the demise of the New York Yankees whose legendary history and modus operandi was to pay a fair wage to build the greatest team the world has ever known. That all began to change when independent players began choosing to promote their own agenda by following the money-trail offered by their free agents. Yes, there are still loyal players on the team who have remained, but for those who have broken their allegence to their team players and gone off chasing an extra dollar and an extra photo-op, I choose not to watch their playoffs)

As for recognition of a loyal programmer who works on our team, I can at least offer the following:

    • A competitive wage
    • An oppotrunity for a lot more work
    • The ability to use our site links on his own portfolio page to further enhance his earnings
    • A unique ability to offer my private phone number as a reference to his potential clients
Johnny Appleseed never demanded up-front recognition and vast fortunes when he continued his journeyman's venture in spreading his talented seed. But he joined the ranks of Will Rogers who always paid-it-foward and gained both recognition and fortune because of his efforts.

Napoleon Hill also was chosen by the world's richest billionaire in the 1900's (Andrew Carnegie) to use Carnegie's influence (not his pocketbook) to become one of the greates authors an millionaires in his own right, because of the opportunity. It has been famoulsly said by Jim Rohn, "Opportunity shies away from need."

There are legions more examples, but it is all for another topic in another more appropriate forum. If you wish to author such a thread, please do so, and at your invitation I will devote some dialog. But for this topic, this employment opening, I ask that you permit your colleaques to choose for themselves, rather than present a bias judgment on a perceived lack of merit.

I know I have seen this list elsewhere where PGM and I both commented on it. You might want to whittle this down based on our 2.5 commentary so that a person will have a better understanding of what the actual needs are in terms of non-2.5 enhancements that they would have to make.

    {just my $0.02)

PS; You continue to quote Rohm and I get to start quoting Robbins back to you (I worked for Tony building his fires at UPW... walked over 10K people on my coals)
    so endith the lesson

I will try to trim the list down as suggested. It's like taking a spoon to the ocean, when I at least need a bucket.

(I worked for Jim Rohn when he hired Tony back in the early 1980's. Tony was age 20, and I was 34. After Tony left to go his own way, Jim Rohn became Chairman of the Board for the company I now work for. Even after his passing, his footprints continue to influence our board's direction for generations to come. Many folks don't know that Tony was deeply inspired by Jim Rohn's influence, and yet very little credit was given until many years later. But that's okay. A good teacher is never into it for the recognition. I am sure you learned a great deal from Tony during your years with him)
