Hello all, My name is Mark and I am in the process of launching my first webstore. Obviously from the name we are gonna sell usb flash drives.
I started this project with oscommerce about a week ago and somehow found this i think from doing research on google. I am no php expert so oscmax looks very attractive to me. I am also no webstore genius either so i am hoping to meet some success stories here and hopefully gain some knowledge and perspective.

I am currently waiting for Rc4 to be released because I dont think I want to take any security risks running with globals on. So on that note I am pretty much at a stalemate because i cant run install till rc4 is out....

Thanks,
Mark

Arrow Hello all.

Hello my name is Mark and I am working on launching my first webstore selling usb flash drives. I started with Oscommerce about a week ago and was doing some research on google and found osCMax. I am no genius when it comes to php and/or webstores so this looked like the low budget e-commerce solution for me. I hope to meet some success stories here and hopefully learn from your accomplishments.

I am currently awaiting the release of Rc4 as I dont see the point in compromising security by having globals on. So as far as working on modifying my site that is still stuck at the install phase .

Thanks,
Mark

Talking Re: Hello all.

First of all --- welcome!

There is NO security risk with global_register=ON
It is ONLY a problem IF your a BAD programmer and do not validate or handle input properly. You can turn this on in HTACCESS -- on a per directory requirment.

OSC has been running for WELL over 7 years now. No holes yet.

If you want the RC4 SVN version - download a SVN client and then use the "checkout" feature.

svn checkout http://oscmax2.googlecode.com/svn/branches/michael_s/rc4/trunk

If your really worried - install WOS Portable (Webserver On a Stick - run a webserver based on Apache, MySQL and PHP from an USB Stick) then install RC3 or RC4 there.....

[sarcasm]You do have a USB Stick somewhere right?[/sarcasm]
