inquiring on web services

I have a friend who is looking for a new store because his current one sucks. He is a programmer and works with a small team. He is in need of a "point of sales system" integrated into his store. basically he wants both the online purchasing AND bar-code scanning of products to be intregated. Is there an api or service anyone recommends for that with oscmax?

He also wants an xml web service too...

No! But I have been toying with a few ideas to allow osCmax to act as the EPOS terminal in a physical store.

It is not too complicated ... well in theory!

There are a number of barcode mods - osCommerce Community Add-Ons

Then you just need to tweak the Phone Order login (to log in as "Instore Customer") and allow the barcode scanner to enter the product codes.

If you get a thermal printer this can trigger the cash drawer and you are basically there.

It is on my list of things to do ... but we need to get v2.5 stable out first ...

If you do it this way you will have one dbase, one contact list, etc.

There are a few EPOS systems out there but in my research none of them really fitted the bill ... let me know if you come across one that does.
