Question about: "Help Contribute" and paying for osCmax server?

I have a question about the advertisement on these forums which reads:

Is osCmax on a dedicated virtual server; or a dedicated server; or a shared server?

The reason I ask is that the company I work for has more than one site, and they use both dedciated and shared servers, most of which do not exceed $78 a month for a dedicated server. Yet, according to the advertisement this site is 31% of $252.00 per month in reaching its monthly goal.

Why would a dedciated server for this site cost $252.00 per month? If not, what are the monthly costs for the server?

If the admins are interested in reducing their dedciated server costs dramatically, pleas PM me for USA hosting companies who we use for far less each month.

I'm not from osCmax, but I know what I pay for dedicated servers (I put no more than 4 stores on a server)

Cost $300/mo with 90 days free to set up and run - 1 year contract (pay for 9 months), then month to month.
I could go to $400/mo with
CPU Phenom X6 Hexa Core
Clock Rate 6 x 2.8 GHz
RAM 16 GB
Storage 1,500 GB

But that's overkill for the small number of stores we put on every server.

Don't forget it is not just the oscmax.com server but also the wiki, test stores, etc.

But again as met00 said, I'm not from osCmax. (I do contribute quite a bit of code though.)

Well, perhaps you're right.

I thought the donation fund was only to support this VBulletin Forum, which can surely survive on a lot less money per month that the $253.00.

But if there are test stores (not sure how many there are) which may require more resources, than that may account for the extra money.

We used to pay $330 a month for our server, and then the hardware and chips got cheaper. We were able to get just as much resource for under $100 a month.

But it takes at least an annual review to see if there are cheaper costs available. For us, we have been with the same hosting company for 11 years, and each time we asked to downgrade our costs but keep our resources up, our host was always willing to help. But we had to do the asking.

The goal is to cover the total administrative expenses related to running the entire osCmax.com network - that includes all hardware and associated expenses, software licenses, IT administrative fees, and webmaster fees. There are a lot more expenses associated with running this web network than the servers.
