Subdomain pointing to another server

Hi

First of all I am sorry if I am posting this in the wrong section, mods pls move it to the right section if so.

I have a domain name say www.abc.com hosted on a server say "Server1"

I have created a subdomain for that domain say http://chat.abc.com

Now, what I want is, I want to host chat.abc.com to another server say "Server2", which means chat.abc.com should point to another Server2 instead of Server1.

Please tell me the steps to do this (changing DNS records etc).

I will be highly greateful to you. Please?

Just set up an A record in your DNS record for the domain for the subdomain that points to the IP of the second server:

Code:

domain.com.  A   IN  3601   IP.OF.REMOTE.SITE

ok, do i have to setup any nameservers for that subdomain?

No, they are already set up in the dns record for the top level domain. Since it is a subdomain, it will get its dns info from the same nameservers as the top level domain.

Question, what if I need to do this manually and not using a control panel?

You will need to know how to set up a user account on the server, how to set up a virtual host container in apache, as well as how to edit/create dns zone files. If you don't know what I am talking about, you should ask your host how much they would charge hourly to set it up for you. Your other option is to start using google to find the tutorials you need to get this done (they are out there).
