Default problem with FedEx curl script

I set up the FedEx module, and entered the data that I understood. I tried to buy an item, and when I click checkout, I get this message :

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: curl_init() in /home/httpd/html/oscmax/catalog/includes/modules/shipping/fedex1.php on line 234

Obviously I still have some other software to install. Can anyone tell me what to do?

Oh, yeah, I am running on CentOS 5.2 (Linux) with mysql, if that makes any difference.

    Thanks,

    Jon

You have to have curl+ssl compiled into php. Check your phpinfo and see if curl+ssl is available. If not, PHP needs to be recompiled with curl+ssl support.

I am not an expert in these areas. I have the http server running on one machine, and the sql server is on a different machine. This works for at least the admin and catalog functions of oscmax. The http server machine is so old that the package repositories have been disappearing, and I can't install or update some packages, that's why the sql server has to be on a different machine. I am probably going to have to completely rebuild the http server machine, not a project I am looking forward to.

I have not been able to get phpmyadmin to run on the http server machine, likely for similar reasons (no sql on local host). Is there a way to get the phpinfo without phpmyadmin?

I did not compile php initially, and worry that a failed compile from source might make things worse.

    Thanks,

    Jon

It looks like this info ought to be in the oscmax tools/server info report, but I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for.

    Admin->Tool->Server Info

Look for a heading called Curl:

    Mine states:

    CURL support enabled
    CURL Information libcurl/7.15.5 OpenSSL/0.9.8b zlib/1.2.3 libidn/0.6.5

Well, that's the problem, for sure, no heading at ALL for curl. So, I have installed curl, downloaded php source, and tried to compile it, and ran into "libxml2-config not found", so yet another package that is out of date or not set up right. I'm still working on it.

    Thanks,

    Jon

Hi, you cannot just install the binary curl.

You must completely recompile PHP with curl functions supported (the option --with-curl) and SSL.

Right, that's what I was trying to do. But, this old Debian system is so out of date the apt repositories have dumped the files. Last thing I hit was mysql needs libstdc++.so.6, and I don't have that. I couldn't figure out what older version of mysql would be compatible with the libstdc++.so.5 I have on the system. Anyway, I have no hardware backup for this server, so I thought it might be a good idea to build an entire new system, port all the stuff over and get it working there, then go live on the new system. They, update the old system and keep it as a cold standby.
