Default Strange characters showing up in order process email

I am receiving strange characters in the order process emails when using Euros or Pounds but not when I use dollars as the payment. I get this: Sub-Total: £91.94 and Sub-Total: €39.00. I also get & instead of & when a customer is sending a gift to a couple and shipping it directly to them , so I get Sam & Sharon Brown in the shipping address instead of Sam & Sharon Brown. These things do not show up in the site, just the order process email.

How can I correct these things?

    Thanks,

    Dan

I just switched 'Use MIME HTML When Sending Emails" to true and that solved the & issue but did not solve the extra characters in the price symbols.

Here is the strange character I am getting in the order process emails next to the price sign: £16.00, €8.00. It does not do it with the US dollar sign. I have tested this on a site hosted in Ireland and one hosted in the US, both with an Irish customer using an Irish ISP for email and a US customer. Has anyone else ran into this? I'm using 2.5.1, so other people must have ran into this problem.

I am using the shop in Three languages,
German English Spanish. the welcome mails in spanish and german also contain "strange" characters.

    the ñ ö ü ä ó í are a mess.

When i changed from sendmail to SMTP i was able to mail the customers words with the letters ä ö ü ñ í ó but the mail that the server sends on new account creation is still full of strange chars:
    persönlichen should be Persönlichen
    etc etc.

Set the Email to use Mime and use the ascii equivalent in the language files.

If you google this you will find that it is to do with switching between UTF and ISO-xyz (your language)

Perfect! I added the code € to localization/currencies in place of the € and the emails come out correct now.

    Thanks

    Hi pgmarshall.

I have changed all the words which gave me the "strange" chars to the ascii codes.
now i receive the mails with the ascii codes written, and still not the letters it should send:
" Nachstehend finden Sie die Details Ihres persönlichen Gutscheins" i tried it with the ö first using: ö "

Is there anything else i can do to solve this problem. ( in the german language i could change all the words with ö ü ä to oe - ue - ae and people would understand it, in the spanish language writing españa like espana doesnt look rly nice.

    Regards from Spain.

Have you set the email to be sent in MIME HTML format?

Hi, I have the same problem, in spanish too:

    the emails show:

    Número de pedido:

    When the correct is:

    Número de pedido:

and other problems in some words, for example, españa, show españa.

This problem, don´t show when I send email from the CK Editor.

    Any Solution?

I am having the problem with Irish names that are entered by the customer. For instance Dónall Óg needs a fada over o in Donall and fada over o in Og, they are fine in the orders.php in the admin but they come out strange in the order_process email. Email is set to use Mime. When the customer sees the order_process email they begin emailing and calling that the information is incorrect. Anyone have any solutions?

    Dan
